Originally titled Ich Seh Ich Seh (I See I See), Goodnight Mommy is one of those European horror/suspense films that you can't compare to many others.
The film revolves around Lukas and Elias, two 10-year-old twins living in a remote rural house in Austria, and the mysterious relationship they have with their mother, whom they start suspecting of being a different person, after she returns home from reconstructive facial surgery, with her head completely wrapped up in bandages, acting differently than before.
The narrative starts off in a slow pace, but the tension and the suspense slowly build up under the helm of talented directing duo Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz and the brilliant cinematography of Martin Gschlacht (Die Wand), leading to a climax that proves to be shocking, fulfilling and smart for the storytelling, all at the same time.
Plot summary from IMDb: Twin boys move to a new home with their mother after she has face changing cosmetic surgery, but under her bandages is someone the children don't recognize.
Awards: 12 wins & 28 nominations.
