A comet, eight people and Schrödinger's cat. These, along with a good dose of skill, are the ingredients with which director James Ward Byrkit has packed his low-budget science fiction film Coherence.
While entirely concentrated in the simple location of a suburban home, the movie still manages to develop a plot with a complex narrative tangle and a dense network of characters.
Four couples get together for a quiet dinner party, when a series of mysterious events begin to occur during the passage of a comet. The characters find themselves facing frightening revelations and start questioning the identities of their friends, their relationships and in the end, their own reality.
Coherence, with its simplicity, is a complex labyrinth where everyone ends up doubting everyone and finally, in utter disorder, discover their murderous instincts.
Plot summary from IMDb: On the night of an astronomical anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, COHERENCE is a tightly focused, intimately shot film that quickly ratchets up with tension and mystery.
