In his latest film, We Are the Best!, two bored teenage girls in 1980’s Sweden, decide to start a punk band. Ignoring all the people who tell them punk is dead and their complete lack of musical talent, they recruit a fellow misfit from school, a shy and loner classical guitar-playing schoolmate, as a third wheel. In between fighting over boys and provoking their metal-head nemeses, the three begin preparing for their debut live gig.

Based on a graphic novel by Moodysson's wife, Coco, We Are the Best! benefits of his typical energy and exuberance. With its portrayal of teen awkwardness, embarrassing parents, and budding political ideals, the film is an uplifting exploration of adventure, friendship, love and betrayal, that will leave its viewers smiling inside and out.
