A powerful and gritty French romantic drama directed by Jacques Audiard (A Prophet).
Marion Cotillard gives a tour-de-force performance as Stéphanie, a killer whale trainer whose life is abruptly transformed after a freak accident during one of her shows. She meets Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts), a street boxer and a single father who is struggling to earn a living after moving in with his sister, and he helps her come out of her depression, giving her the courage to go on living.
Marked by extremely strong performances from both its leads, De rouille et d'os is a well-told story of an unlikely romance that develops between two fractured lives, the kind that finds the most stirring emotion in struggle rather than in ginned-up melodrama or easy resolution.
Plot summary from IMDb: Put in charge of his young son, Alain leaves Belgium for Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Alain's bond with Stephanie, a killer whale trainer, grows deeper after Stephanie suffers a horrible accident.
Awards: Nominated for 2 Golden Globes. Another 34 wins & 66 nominations.
