Bruce Dern plays Woody Grant, a senile Korean War veteran who goes on a Don Quixotic quest to collect a $1 million-dollar sweepstakes prize he received through a scam letter. Seeing how determined he is to collect his prize, and against the advice of his cranky wife Kate (an award-worthy June Squibb), he convinces his son David (SNL comedian Will Forte) to take him to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he is supposed to cash it in, and on their way, they spend a weekend in the town where Woody grew up and has some old scores to settle.
From director Alexander Payne (About Schmidt, Sideways, The Descendants) comes a road movie about family relationships and friendships, an ode to small Midwestern towns that was met with almost unanimously positive reviews, with a great screenplay, an amazing black-and-white cinematography and a considerable amount of praise directed at its acting, especially for Dern and Squibb.
Plot summary from IMDb: "NEBRASKA" is a father and son road trip, from Billings, Montana to Lincoln, Nebraska that gets waylaid at a small town in central Nebraska, where the father grew up and has scores to settle. Told with deadpan humor and a unique visual style, it's ultimately the story of a son trying to get through to a father he doesn't understand.
