The movie tells the true story of Christopher McCandless, a wealthy young man who, after graduation in social sciences at the Emory University in 1990, donates all of his savings to Oxfam and abandons friends and family to escape the capitalist, consumer society in which he can no longer live. He embarks on a long journey of two years across the United States to reach the wilderness of Alaska, in search of adventure. Along the way, he meets a series of characters that shape his life.
