A subtle and powerful study on relationships, centered around two homosexual men.
After meeting Glen at a gay club on a Friday night, Russell goes home with him for sex, and ends up spending, on and off, the next two days with him. A genuine love story develops between the two young men, as they become intrigued with one another, and get to know each other better, as they share their intimate issues.
Depicting relationships is one of the strong suits of writer-director Andrew Haigh (45 Years) and Weekend, that in some ways reminds of Linklater's Before trilogy, is a good example to prove it. Relying mostly on the dialogue and the frankness between its two main characters, who are both played by their well-suited actors with an amazingly natural chemistry, this low-budget love story set in Nottingham, UK, is a richly textured navigation of modern-day romance that never fails to pull powerful, human emotions out of its otherwise minimal setup.
Plot summary from IMDb: After a drunken house party with his straight mates, Russell heads out to a gay club. Just before closing time he picks up Glen but what's expected to be just a one-night stand becomes something else, something special.
