During the mid-14th Century, England is stricken with The Bubonic Plague and rookie monk Osmund (Eddie Redmayne) joins a group ruthless mercenaries on their quest to investigate an isolated village that's been suspiciously spared the plague, reportedly because its inhabitants engage in satanic rituals so the Devil would ward off the sickness and bring corpses back to life.
British horror director Christopher Smith creates a dark and gritty film, creating a very poignant Medieval atmosphere, especially with the great use of color, or better said lack thereof, actor Sean Bean's appearance as Ulric, the leader of the mercenary group, adding a great deal to the film's value.
