A surreal and sensual S&M love story made in the style of 1970s arthouse erotica.
Young Evelin and middle-aged Cynthia have a very unconventional relationship, playing elaborate sex games. They first appear to be mistress and maid, Evelyn does whatever her mistress tells her to do, but we soon learn that her duties go beyond ironing and sloppy living room floor scrubbing.
A story told with an all-female cast, The Duke of Burgundy comes from writer-director Peter Strickland, a British filmmaker whose films are as un-British as they come (Katalin Varga, Berberian Sound Studio), who tells a love story that masterfully goes from slightly kinky to an unexpectedly moving one.
Plot summary from IMDb: A woman who studies butterflies and moths tests the limits of her relationship with her lover.
