British filmmaker David Mackenzie (Perfect Sense, Starred Up) teams up with writer Taylor Sheridan (Sicario) for a neo-Western bank robber crime drama set in a desolate sprawl of West Texas.
Chris Pine and Ben Foster play two brothers set out to right a wrong by robbing branches of the bank that seeks to opportunistically foreclose on their family farm. As the FBI considers the robberies small potatoes and not worthy of investigation, a local Texas Ranger (Jeff Bridges) goes after them, as one last grand pursuit on the eve of his retirement.
With superb on-key performances all around, but especially from Bridges and Pine, great camera work, memorable lines and masterful filmmaking in general, Hell or High Water is really a praiseworthy work from most involved, and it's considered by many critics as one of the best movies of 2016.
