A good piece of surreal European cinema, Borgman is a twisted fairy tale set in modern times that can be interpreted many different ways.
The plot revolves around an upper-class family in suburban Amsterdam that gets a visit from a mysterious drifter that, after asking for a bath, sticks around, causing a series of confusing and unsettling events, and eventually ends up taking over their lives.
Dutch writer-director Alex van Warmerdam’s film is highly unnerving but also has humor, mixing brutality and comedy in a way that can make it for some viewers somewhat hard to watch.
Plot summary from IMDb: A vagrant enters the lives of an arrogant upper-class family, turning their lives into a psychological nightmare in the process.
Awards: 10 wins & 19 nominations.
